The proposed Museum and Cultural Center at Brookside Bungalow, Shillong, aims to preserve Rabindranath Tagore’s legacy while transforming the site into a vibrant cultural hub. A historic retreat for Tagore in 1919, the bungalow houses his manuscripts, furniture, and artworks.
Under the Tagore Cultural Complexes (TCC) Scheme, the project revitalizes cultural infrastructure, hosting performances, exhibitions, literary events, and seminars. Enhanced museum experiences include audio guides and exhibits inspired by Tagore’s works. The center will feature a café, amphitheater, open-air cinema, garden, souvenir shop, reading room, and training facilities for theatre, dance, and music. Designed in harmony with Tagore’s biophilic philosophy and Shillong’s creative spirit, it fosters cultural exchange and community engagement.
